Covenant
We gather initially as a company of strangers, coming together from a rich diversity of perspectives for a common purpose. Our ability to live and learn from one another depends upon our covenant of cooperation and mutual respect. To be in covenant means affirming that we are bound together, not necessarily by similar faith convictions but by shared expectations and daily activities.

Exploration
Each scholar enrolls in an Exploratory Course in which they examine particular issues in theology as well as the relationship of theology to contemporary society and the public good. Exploratory Courses consist of ten to twelve scholars led by an Exploratory Leader.

Service
Exploratory Leaders and Mentors work together to integrate a service-learning component into Exploratory Courses, collaborating with local "communities of conscience" whose missions combine justice-seeking activism and ethical, moral or theological reflections.

Worship
One of the most important elements of the Summer Academy is community worship, held four nights a week. Scholars and staff work together to plan and lead worship, incorporating different liturgical traditions and practices as well as the lessons gained through Exploratory, Plenary and service experiences.

Recreation
The daily schedule at YTI encourages you to take responsibility for your own learning while attending to the needs of body, mind, and spirit. Daily reading and journaling, strolls through Lullwater Park and visits to the Carlos Museum can become occasions for personal contemplation.
